Trex IPTV on Android TV, phones and tablets
The most flexible hardware for this, and the platform where the gap between a good box and a cheap one is most obvious within the first ten minutes.
Before you start
- An Android TV box, a phone or a tablet
- The Xtream server, username and password from your order
- A few minutes of patience on the first catalogue load
Let the device install outside the store
Android TV keeps this under Settings, then Security and Restrictions, where unknown sources is a single toggle. A phone or tablet spares you the trip: the browser raises the question itself when you first open a downloaded file, and one answer covers it. Either way it is a single permission and not something you have to leave on afterwards.
Get a player onto it
On a TV box, install Downloader and use the code from our apps page. On a phone, download the file from that page and open it. Any player that speaks Xtream Codes will also work, because the subscription is the three lines of text on your order rather than any particular application.
Add the line
Enter the server, the username and the password. Some players label the field Xtream Codes API, others just call it login, and one or two ask for a playlist URL instead - the M3U link on your order fits that box and carries the same details folded into one address.
Set the guide to your own timezone
Where the whole grid is displaced by one fixed amount, on every channel without exception, the player is reading the schedule against the wrong region. The data itself is fine. Fix it in the player settings. If the times are right on some channels and blank on others, that is ours to remap and worth reporting with the channel names as your app spells them.
Check simultaneous streams before you walk away
Start the same line on a second device and see what happens. A one-connection plan will refuse the second stream, often with no clear message at all. Knowing that now is better than discovering it when two people in the house want different channels on a Sunday evening.
Worth knowing
- Choose Xtream over the M3U link wherever a player offers both. The catalogue then arrives in pieces as you browse rather than as one large download before anything is usable.
- Open a 4K channel early. If it breaks up while everything else is immaculate, and it worsens the longer the box has been switched on, the box is decoding H.265 in software and heating up.
- Use the socket if the box has one. Wired beats every other change available to a household, and it costs a cable.
